20 Twin Cities Fashion Icons | Style Expert Sara Rogers

Sara Rogers is a locally based style expert, wardrobe consultant, and the go-to trend specialist for Mall of America. With more than two decades in the fashion world, the former model turned image consultant believes fashion is more than clothes—it’s confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Rogers’s career has taken her from the runway to the newsroom, styling for TV, hosting fashion shows, leading seminars, and always supporting local Twin Cities retailers, models, designers, and talent. Handpicked by Stacy London’s Style for Hire agency, Rogers has earned her place as one of the Midwest’s ultimate tastemakers. A true fixture in the Twin Cities fashion scene, Rogers never misses a local runway show or style event—and she always arrives impeccably dressed, turning heads and embodying the very elegance and confidence she inspires in others.

Tell us how you’re involved in local fashion.

I’m involved in local fashion as the Mall of America trend specialist and a personal style wardrobe consultant. I’ve been in the fashion industry for over 30 years, starting as a model for Dayton’s department store.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style tends to be classic with a twist, and I love borrowed-from-the-boys looks.

What inspires you? Do you have any muses?

Inspiration is all around me because I love people-watching. I’m also inspired by observing the creativity and vision of designers during fashion week and watching street style. My favorite muse is Chanel; however, I also love Katharine Hepburn, the boy-meets-girl trousers look always seems to pull on my heartstrings.

Local designers on your radar right now?

I’m not really involved in the design scene other than admiring fashions from fabulous local designers and design houses such as Joy Teiken from Joynoelle, Kathryn Rogers from House of Klynn, and Rammy Mohamed from Ramadhan Designs to name a few.

What do you love most about Twin Cities style scene?

What I love the most about the local fashion scene is that Minnesota has a wide array of talented and creative people (stylist, photographers, emerging designers, sales consultants, media personalities, influencers, lovers of fashion…) and it’s so much fun to see individuals often seen online in person at some of the fashion events. I also enjoy the networking aspect of seeing store owners, managers and sales staff out partying and having fun together as well as having the opportunity to meet and introduce myself or be introduced to new people.

Local fashion events you can’t miss?

My favorite event is any fashion show I’ve ever attended—I never went to a fashion show I didn’t like, I love it just that much. Of course Fashionopolis is one of my favorites because to me it is the biggest show that brings out so many people I’ve known in the industry for decades and love mingling with.
