“I didn’t leave the apartment.”

For countless individuals, skin blemishes affect far more than simply their appearance. Breakouts on areas such as the back, chest or legs can subtly influence clothing choices, comfort levels in public settings and even self-confidence.

Whilst facial skincare receives widespread attention, body breakouts remain a private battle many face. That struggle is something Sofie, who uses 47 Skin’s Body Range, understands intimately.

She explains she dealt with spots and blemishes across her body for years, and that it started to dictate how she approached daily life – before discovering 47 Skin. Residing in a seaside town brought those emotions into a sharper relief, transforming routine activities into challenges rather than pleasures, reports the Mirror.

Sofie said: “I spent all these years waiting to be able to be there and to enjoy my life and start my life there. I got there, and I didn’t want to leave the house. I didn’t want to go to the beach. I didn’t want to wear a bikini.

“I didn’t leave the apartment. And it just felt so frustrating. It’s not just on your face, but it’s all over your body. You feel like you can’t hide. You don’t want to be naked. You don’t want to be vulnerable in front of your partner. There is no escape from it.”

Body Moisturiser & Body Wash Bundle

The brand uses Silver Chitoderm, a patented ingredient unique to the brand which is said to have antibacterial properties while helping skin breather.

Over time, she explains that discovering a routine which suited her skin helped her feel more engaged and less self-aware. “I go out and I’m not thinking about how my skin looks, I’m thinking about him [her partner] and it’s definitely not something that I have had the luxury of feeling up until this point.”

Sofie utilises 47 Skin’s Body Wash and Body Moisturiser Bundle, which is reduced to £56 from £62 and is formulated specifically for individuals managing body blemishes. The effect of body blemishes is something that 47 Skin’s founder, Nic, also comprehends.

Whilst studying at university and subsequently working in a corporate role, Nic says he became progressively self-conscious about the spots on his back. He remembers how it shaped even practical decisions, noting: “I’d try and avoid white shirts and clothes like that because that really exaggerated the spots and blemishes.”

On warmer days, he says he would retain his suit jacket despite the discomfort. “I wouldn’t take my suit jacket off, which of course made me sweat more (and my spots worse).” Nic’s pivotal moment arrived when his grandmother sent him a cream that cleared his skin within days.

Wanting to grasp why it worked, he traced the scientist behind the formulation – a moment that subsequently led to the establishment of 47 Skin. Reflecting on his journey, Nic stated: “Ever since then, we’ve been working on perfecting a range of products specially designed for body breakouts. I hope 47 Skin makes the same difference to your skin and confidence as it did to mine.”

The Body Wash and Body Moisturiser Bundle is currently part of a promotion running until 25 February with an additional 10% off, aims to gently clear the skin whilst maintaining hydration, rather than drying it out or merely concealing the problem. The Treatment Body Wash contains 2% salicylic acid to aid in exfoliating, unclogging pores and smoothing the skin, alongside plant extracts such as papaya, liquorice root and bearberry leaf to brighten and promote an even tone.

The accompanying Body Moisturiser is touted as being lightweight and non-clogging, designed to soothe the skin and support the barrier whilst helping to reduce inflammation and uneven texture. It utilises ingredients like vitamin E and ceramides to lock in moisture, making it suitable for regular, all-over use on blemish-prone areas.

What distinguishes 47 Skin is its use of Silver Chitoderm, a patented ingredient exclusive to the brand. According to 47 Skin, silver is recognised for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, whilst Chitoderm aids in adhering it to the skin in a breathable layer, allowing it to remain where it’s needed and assist skin recovery. Together, the brand claims they are clinically tested to eliminate 99.9% of breakout-causing bacteria whilst aiding the skin’s healing process.

If this isn’t suitable for everyone, there’s also a more affordable alternative with the OUAI St. Barts Body Cleanser for £26 from Lookfantastic. This body cleanser is said to ‘gently remove’ impurities and scents the skin for a long-lasting fresh feel. It also contains a range of antioxidants and vitamins including A and C.

A slightly more budget-friendly choice is the Apothecary Calm Body Wash for £6.80 from M&S. This one combines lavender oils and ho wood to create a ‘dreamy scent’ for customers to use.

However, the 47 Skin’s Body Wash and Body Moisturiser Bundle has received high ratings and has accumulated over 10,000 five-star reviews. One said: “The Body Wash cleared my back up within a couple of months.”

Another wrote: “I’ve especially seen a huge difference after using the Body Moisturiser on my back. For the first time in years, I feel confident enough to wear tops that show my back.”

A third person added: “Came across the Body Moisturiser after trying pretty much everything out there. Now my teenager is wearing those short sleeves and T-shirts. This brand is now a staple in our household. I cannot recommend this enough. It has given me and my child our confidence back. Thank you for making these products!”

A handful of others had some complaints to share on Trustpilot, with one stating: “Quick response but would like more advice on which products I need!”

47 Skin has a promotion running from 2 to 25 February with 10% off bundles.
