Washington Crown Center to become Franklin Crossroads Park

Plans are now in motion to upgrade the Washington Crown Center Mall. At *** public hearing tonight, prospective buyers unveiled future plans for the mall. Covering Washington County, reporter Jordan Syopa tells us what could be the next step in North Franklin Township. *** Cleveland-based real estate company is looking to invest $35 million into transforming the Washington Crown Center into *** mixed-use development. North Franklin Township leaders voted on the first step in moving this plan forward, but some of the remaining tenants want to know what this means for them. Plans to redevelop the Washington Crown Center are beginning to unfold now that *** prospective buyer is stepping in. We’d like to utilize the existing bones of the building. Which allows us to bring it to market *** lot faster. Chrisellata with Provider Real Estate Partners out of Cleveland, Ohio attended the North Franklin Township supervisor meeting Tuesday to pitch the company’s plans for the struggling mall, which is currently owned by Cohan Group. He says they envision *** mixed use project spanning 500,000 square feet. That would continue to incorporate retail uses, but also add some flexibility to the zoning that would allow us to then pursue corporate. The idea will require township supervisors to sign off on *** zoning change at *** special meeting later this month. Leaders did take the first step by voting to advertise their intention to adopt the zoning amendment. Reconfigure the retail on the front of the project to kind of fill in the empty spaces that exist today. It makes us nervous. Cory Gardner owns Iron Blast’s Game zone, one of the remaining tenants inside the mall, with demolition mostly planned for the interior. He wants to know what this means for the future of his business. Should we start looking to go somewhere else? Um, what do we do in the meantime during the construction if we do stay or you keep us and how we survive it? According to Salata, they plan to meet with the tenants to see how they can fit into the project, saying they’d love to keep as many as possible. The current owner has faced multiple fines from the township for failing to upkeep them all. The next owners are hopeful they will take the property. In *** different direction. Not only will we improve kind of the maintenance um and and the upkeep of the property, the trash, but also you’ll see an increased security presence, and then you’ll see an addition of multiple tenants. The company anticipates it could take 90 to 120 days to close on the property. The special meeting will take place June 25th at 5 p.m. covering Washington County in North Franklin Township. New owners of the Washington Crown Center shopping mall have been identified, and they are planning a big redevelopment.

PREP Funds, based in Cleveland, and Los Angeles-based Industrial Realty Group have acquired the mall in North Franklin Township, Washington County, according to the announcement.

It will be renamed Franklin Crossroads Park and undergo a $40 million transformation into a mixed-use site with a retail center on the eastern side of the property and a business park on the west.

The chairman of the township supervisors says demolition of part of the new mall is imminent, including the movie theater and the old Bon-Ton department store.
