3 places to shop for used/recycled clothes in Virginia Beach

Spring has sprung, and spring cleaning has begun.

Well, for some of us. Not me.

Personally, I’m more interested in spring fashion. I’m thankful for all those organized women with fabulous taste who clean their closets out in the spring. Their bountiful donations to area thrift stores result in an influx of clothing. There’s nothing like finding a fashion gem for a fraction of the cost.

In fact, my entire family loves treasure hunting for fashion bargains. It’s become a source of affordable family entertainment. We’ve spent many Saturdays perusing through aisles at area Goodwills and CHKD thrift stores. The kids have scored some great deals on brands like Free People, Carhart, Lululemon and North Face and collegiate attire.

The thrill of the fashion hunt is half the fun. When you find that special item, it’s like winning the thrifting lottery.

Here are three places for recycled fashion in Virginia Beach to get you started:

___

VB Flea

This is not your ordinary flea market.

This is a hip and cool shopping experience in the ViBe Creative District located in The Alley behind WRV. You will have so much fun browsing through 60-plus vendors selling vintage clothing, vintage toys, jewelry, art and creative finds. Once, I scored a Free People blouse in a $1 bin and a beautiful hammered gold cuff from Bali. My favorite items are the vintage T-shirts and the eclectic selection of denim and leather jackets.

The chill community vibe is enhanced with live music and food trucks. Even if you don’t score some clothes, you’ll enjoy the experience.

VB Flea is every third Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. year-round and on the first Friday nights through October from 6-10 p.m.

S.O.S. Thrift

Save money and help out area schools while thrifting.

S.O.S. Thrift gives customers an added incentive because it supports the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Proceeds from the sale of donated items benefit the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, which offers funding for teacher grants and student programming for Virginia Beach City Public schools. Also, there’s a round up program at check out, and 100% of the round up benefits the Beach Bag program, which supplies shelf stable food to kids in need of food on the weekends.

S.O.S. Thrift recently moved from its Virginia Beach Boulevard location to Shore Drive. Don’t forget to check out their special boutique section for great vintage pieces.

This consignment shop is coastal inspired and sells affordable brand-name clothing. It’s only a couple blocks off the bay. You won’t find fast fashion or cheap knock-offs here. Upscale brands include Kate Spade, Frye, Chico’s, Coach, American Eagle and others.

Also, the store has one of the largest selections I’ve seen of Lilly Pulitzer. This makes a great stop on the way to the beach.
