Recent and upcoming departures

White the Lehigh Valley Mall is welcoming several new tenants, others are bidding farewell.

Dino Sweets, offering freshly prepared mini doughnuts, churros, milkshakes and more, on Oct. 16 closed its kiosk on the mall’s upper level.

Dino Sweets’ Lehigh Valley Mall location operated for five years, and its closure was primarily due to increasing rent, owner Eddie Pagan said.

The mall management team also requested that Pagan spend money to upgrade the kiosk without extending a long-term contract to Dino Sweets, Pagan said.

A mall representative did not respond to a message seeking comment on Dino Sweets’ departure.

“We’re proud to have represented our community and brought a little color, sweetness, and culture to the mall,” an announcement on Dino Sweets’ Facebook page reads. “However, it’s disappointing to see how little support there is for small local businesses that work hard to grow and serve.”

Other businesses departing the Lehigh Valley Mall in recent months include Tasty Bitez, a fast-casual eatery offering burgers, cheesteaks, gyros, fried chicken, salads and more; Coming Attractions Jewelers, a jewelry kiosk offering high-quality rings, bracelets, necklaces and more; and Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, a full-service restaurant and craft brewery that closed alongside other Iron Hill locations due to ongoing financial challenges.

An Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant location has closed at the Lehigh Valley Mall’s outdoor lifestyle center, 950 Lehigh Lifestyle Center, Whitehall Township.

Earlier in 2025, the mall also said goodbye to fashion retailers Forever 21 and Austin 5, leggings store Fit Leggy, fast-casual eatery Spice n Shake and Pocono Brewery Company’s Lehigh Valley taproom. The craft brewery and family restaurant’s flagship location continues to operate in the Swiftwater section of Pocono Township, Monroe County.

Businesses set to depart Lehigh Valley Mall in the coming months include Jennifer’s Unique Boutique and Chick-fil-A.

Jennifer’s Unique Boutique, a store carrying handmade gifts, home decor, personal care products and other items from more than 50 local vendors, will operate at the Lehigh Valley Mall’s outdoor lifestyle center until Dec. 24 as owner Jennifer Smith plans to relocate the multi-merchant market to Kutztown in the new year.

Jennifer’s Unique Boutique plans to depart the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township and relocate to North White Oak Street in Kutztown.

Jennifer’s new Kutztown location is expected to open in mid-January at 16 N. White Oak St., next to the Strand Theatre, just off West Main Street, Smith said.

Jennifer’s carries a unique mix of merchandise, including hand-crafted home decor, clothing, fashion accessories such as jewelry and hats, throw pillows, pictures frames, garden décor, tumblers and other drinkware, candles and wax melts, soaps and lotions and holiday decorations such as wreaths, stockings and ornaments.

Top-selling items include hand-made crafts and collectibles such as Funko Pop! figures.

lvm 8.jpg

Jennifer’s Unique Boutique plans to depart the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township and relocate to North White Oak Street in Kutztown.

A lot of people come in for the Funko Pops and the Lego guys. We’ll still have that. There are snacks and homemade fudge, nuts, dip mixes; candles, wax melts, soaps, garden décor, tumblers, drinkware, holiday items – ornaments.

The Kutztown location is closer to Smith’s home in Topton, but that’s not the main reason for the upcoming move.

Smith has been frustrated by the mall management teams’s requests to relocate her business to different spaces in the mall over the past several years.

Since opening in 2021, the boutique has been forced to move at least four times to different mall locations, Smith said.

Each move is costly and confuses customers, Smith said.

Smith said she decided to move out of Whitehall earlier this fall after mall management contacted her to let her know that another prospective tenant was interested in the boutique’s current space.

lehigh valley mall 4.jpg

Jennifer’s Unique Boutique plans to depart the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township and relocate to North White Oak Street in Kutztown.

“We’re a small business,” Smith lamented.

“Every time that we move, we have permit fees and inspections, and then we have to close a while. It’s a lot of work. We’re just a small business, and we have to move everything ourselves.”

With the business regularly shuffling locations, people also get confused about where the boutique is located, Smith added. As a result, sales have suffered in recent years.

“We’ve lost so many customers,” she said. “We get people who come into our current location and are surprised that we’re still around because the last that they saw us was down near Macy’s.”

Smith sees a better fit for her boutique in Kutztown, where she’s signed a year lease for the business.

“It’s also 10 minutes from my house, and because I’m from this area, I feel like we’ll get so much more community support,” Smith said of the Kutztown location.

A Lehigh Valley Mall representative did not respond to a message seeking comment on the upcoming departure of Jennifer’s Unique Boutique.

Also set to depart the mall soon is Chick-fil-A.

The quick-service restaurant company, known for its freshly-prepared chicken selections, is located on the mall’s lower level, near the mall’s main entrance.

In the summer, Chick-fil-A, Inc. provided a statement, indicating that the Lehigh Valley Mall location would close early next year.

However, on-site managers recently told 69 News that the restaurant’s last day of business would be at the end of December.

“It has been our pleasure to serve each and every Guest at this location for the past 27 years, and we look forward to continuing to serve the surrounding community at our nearby locations,” Chick-fil-A, Inc.’s July statement reads.

Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A has been a fixture at the mall for almost three decades, with the restaurant originally operating on the mall’s upper level.

Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and privately held company founded in 1967 by S. Truett Cathy, according to a company description.

More than 200,000 team members are employed by local owner-operators in more than 3,000 restaurants across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

A handful of other Chick-fil-A restaurants operate in the Lehigh Valley, including another Whitehall restaurant at 2610 MacArthur Road.
