Jake Paul’s body language assessed after Anthony Joshua face-off

The ‘Problem Child’ has backed himself to shock the world next month after facing off with the former two-time unified heavyweight world champion

Jake Paul is seemingly full of confidence ahead of his monumental heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua next month.

That is according to body language expert Bruce Durham – who recently analysed every single detail of the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s recent face off with ‘AJ.’ The two boxers are scheduled to meet in a professional dust-up on December 19 in Miami, Florida – just weeks after Paul’s cancelled bout with Gervonta Davis.

Paul was due to take on the lightweight star earlier this month, but was forced to scrap the showcase after his rival was accused of battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping by an ex-girlfriend. In a bid to stay active, the ‘Problem Child’ called out several stars for a fight in December, and it was Joshua who obliged.

Going from Davis to Joshua certainly caught man off guard, and despite the huge disparity in size, the boxing novice is surprisingly full of belief that he can, in fact, pick up one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport. Both Paul and ‘AJ’ went nose-to-nose at a launch press conference just days after their bout was confirmed, using the opportunity to get a read on each other ahead of their highly anticipated scrap.

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will face off for a heavyweight clash in Miami on December 19. The fight will stream live on Netflix, which fans can get for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle, the brand’s ‘lowest ever price’ for Sky TV.

Their face-off quickly went viral across the globe, and Durham was quick to share his thoughts and reveal exactly what was going through Paul’s mind from his perspective. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Durham said: “If you’re into predictions, and you’re a betting person, you need to be paying attention to what Jake Paul does. And when you see him talking about his own foot speed, what you see him doing is a little rub of the knee, and a little ‘self-soothe’.

“If you ever see a self-soothe, that is that person telling themselves ‘it’s okay, we’ve got this here.’ People won’t always tell you how they feel, but their body, via the limbic system, will always show you, and that’s what Jake is showing here. He is hoping that the footwork that he’s got will be too much for Anthony Joshua.”

Another major sign of the American’s confidence could be seen in his reaction to Joshua unveiling his plans for 2026 – practically implying he is overlooking the YouTuber-turned-boxer. “I love the fact that he is irritated, like ‘how dare you even think to bypass me and start planning as if you’re going to beat Jake Paul.’ I love that from a confidence level perspective. That’s not fear, that’s a genuine irritation in his self-belief,” Durham continued.

“I love the fact that he’s that up for it, that wired for it, that stimulated for it. He is irritated at just hearing that they’re already planning AJ’s next fight. I think that’s absolutely fantastic.” He added: “I just think we’re going to get a fantastic version of Jake Paul. Does that mean he’s going to beat Anthony Joshua? I don’t know. But what I do know is that we’re going to get a primed physical and mental specimen. For me, confidence breeds performance, and that’s what we’ve got with Jake Paul here, and that’s what makes it an exciting fight.”
