Copenhagen Fashion Week just wrapped, and while there’s much to dissect from the trends we spotted on the runway, there’s just as much to discuss about the fashion we spotted off the catwalk.
Editors, buyers, and journalists from around the globe descended on Copenhagen over the past week to uncover the best of Scandi talent. We witnessed unforgettable moments, from MKDT Studio’s serene show (set inside the sun-drenched atrium at the Statens Museum for Kunst) to the debut of the brand Stel, held at the brutalist headquarters of the architecture firm Bjarke Ingels.
Outside the shows, attendees leaned into all manner of winter textures, in pieces like sumptuous suede coats and sleek mocha-mousse bomber jackets. Leopard print was a signature on coats, shoes, and accessories. And given the frigid season, editors relied on warm winter accessories, from balaclavas to snoods, while hopping from show to show. There was even a hint of Western flair, spotted among showgoers who wore fringed jackets and tasseled bags. And one thing is for certain: The bag charms trend is still going strong.
Ahead, see and shop the key trends from Copenhagen’s best street-style looks.
1. Suede
Are you in a winter style rut? The best way to get out is to lean into warm winter textures like suede. Style them like the street-style set does, with a matching suede skirt or one in a textured corduroy. Add a pop of color with something like this vibrant crimson-red scarf from &Daughter, which you can wear in multiple ways: wrapped around your neck, shoulders, or head for extra warmth when fending off brisk winter chills.
2. The Dark-Chocolate Bomber
Instead of a puffy winter coat, consider a leather (or faux!) bomber in a dark cocoa brown for a sleek wintertime look. Style it with a blue button-down shirt and khaki trousers, and add a top-handle bag in camel leather or suede.
3. The Balaclava, Snood, and Scarf
Consider adding a balaclava or knit beanie to your winter wardrobe this season. You won’t regret it when the wind chill drops. Shop a soft wool version from Scandi label Ganni, or go for Loeffler Randall’s cashmere version in red or gray. You can also use your traditional scarf and wrap it around your head for added warmth like these street stylers did.
4. Fringe on Everything
A tinge of Western flair was spotted throughout Copenhagen Fashion Week, where some showgoers displayed their best fringed jackets and accessories. Style this pairing with knee-high leather boots in cocoa brown and a warm wool skirt or trouser.
5. The Sleek Leather Coat and Lace-Trimmed Dress
We reported on the Phoebe Philo–era lace-trim resurgence, and it’s made its way around to Copenhagen too. Style it with a long-line leather coat, an easy throw-on shoulder bag, and pointy-toe kitten heels.
6. The Leopard-Print Coat and Coordinating Flats
Leopard print was one of the season’s biggest breakout trends, and here you can choose to wear it any way you like. Whether you prefer a classic leopard coat or opt for Vibi Venezia’s popular flats in the wild print, there’s no wrong way to do leopard. It’s technically a “neutral,” after all.
7. The Statement Fur and Vintage-Wash Jeans
Opt for a fabulous shearling coat this season. This version from Maje is reversible, meaning you get two for one. Layer a turtleneck underneath for extra warmth, and style it with your favorite blue jeans. Cinch it all together with a sleek brown belt, like this B-Low the Belt style, and finish with menswear loafers from GH Bass.
8. The Daily Carryall and Maximalist Charms
If you haven’t already styled your go-to leather bag with personalized charms, this is your sign to do so. Throughout Copenhagen, people added a mixture of tasseled charms and baubles to their handbags, putting a signature stamp on accessories that truly made them their own.
