Dollar Tree closing down last location in popular mall – and shoppers cry closest store is on ‘other end of the county’

ONE mall is losing its Dollar Tree by the end of the year, sparking mixed reactions from the community.

Ray Allen, who shared the news on Facebook, said that the Dollar Tree will be closing, marking the final retail outpost in the once-bustling mall.

“There are several new Dollar Tree/Family Dollar stores in the area,” Allen’s post noted, signaling an expansion of options for some, but not for all.

For many shoppers, the closure of the Dollar Tree — located at 900 Skyland Blvd — leaves them frustrated.

One commenter expressed dismay, pointing out that for those on the south side of Tuscaloosa, the next closest Dollar Tree is a long drive.

“We have a Dollar Tree next door to a Walmart in Northport,” one person commented, only to be met with, “Too far for those of us on the other end of the county to shop at.”

Another shopper lamented that the Dollar Tree was the closest option for those near Highway 69 South.

“I hate this! It’s our favorite one and it’s the closest one to 69S!” they said.

“They need to either open one down here or reopen it when they put that shopping mall center they’ve been talking about.”

‘ABOUT TIME’

Not everyone is sad to see the store go.

Some locals seem relieved to see the outdated mall move closer to redevelopment.

“Thank GOD! Time to do something with that property,” one comment read.

Another humorously added, “About time that hot mess is gone, been hanging around like a hair in a biscuit.”

The U.S. Sun reached out to Dollar Tree for comment on the closure but has not yet received a response.

DOLLAR DUPES

Meanwhile, those who are able to reach a Dollar Tree might be interested in a dupe for a kitchen essential.

Dollar Tree’s new Home Collection Fall Leaves Microfiber Kitchen Towel is making waves this autumn, flying off the shelves for an unbeatable price of just $1.25.

Featuring a charming white background adorned with vibrant leaves in green, red, yellow, and orange hues, these towels have quickly become a seasonal favorite among shoppers.

Customers have expressed their satisfaction, with many praising the quality and design of the towels.

For those looking to complete their autumn kitchen aesthetic, Dollar Tree also offers matching oven mitts and potholders, each priced at the same affordable $1.25.

When compared to similar items at other retailers, Dollar Tree’s offering stands out for its value.

For instance, Walmart’s Maple Leaf Acorn Fall Thanksgiving Decorative Kitchen Hand Dish Towel Set retails for $16.97, creating a staggering $15.72 price difference.

In other closure news, Best Buy has shut down another location following a wave of closures last year, with additional shutdowns anticipated in 2025.

Plus, Red Lobster has successfully exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy, signaling a major turnaround for the seafood chain famous for its affordable menu and beloved cheddar biscuits.
