STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The days of yore always seem to shine a bit brighter in hindsight — and the same goes for the Staten Island Mall.
A 1990 directory of the Staten Island Mall is circulating on Reddit, serving up some of that bittersweet nostalgia of a mall that boasted 16 shoe stores and a liquor store within its hallowed halls.
Food joints — Blimpies, Roy Rogers, Stuft Potato — serve up delicious memories as Tape World poised as the entryway to the background music of the age.
Of course, not everything is history.
Aeropostale, Macy’s, and Spencer Gifts are living relics of the Staten Island Mall that existed 35 years ago.
“That Kay Bee Toys was my drug,” one commenter posted. Another joked it was “…where I took my first and last temper tantrum.”
“Wait the JCPenney wing wasn’t always there??” A baffled user commented.
Yes, that’s right: This directory predates the JCPenney. Back then, it was only Sears and Macy’s claiming the department store circuit.
“The stores have changed (except Spencer’s, lol!), I miss the fountains outside of Macy’s, but it’s still magic for my daughter,” a mother said on the thread.
